HP Laptop Launch Includes AMD 'Sleekbook'

Along with remodeling its consumer laptop line, HP has answered the curiosity of onlookers who wondered what a vendor might call an ultra-thin portable with an AMD processor that disqualified it from Intel's ultrabook trademark: Meet the Sleekbook.

Actually, the AMD APU-equipped, 15.6-inch HP Envy Sleekbook (shipping June 20 for $599.99) is accompanied by an Intel-powered 14-inch model (shipping May 9 for $699.99) with optional discrete graphics, as opposed to the "discrete-class" graphics of the AMD laptop. Each starts at 4 pounds, measures just 20mm thick, and features HP's Beats Audio with two speakers and a subwoofer.

The 14-inch Envy Sleekbook offers a 500GB hard drive and, HP claims, up to eight hours of battery life; the 15.6-inch model comes with a 320GB drive and up to nine hours of battery life. For consumers who crave the Intel trademark, May 9 will also see the debut of 14- and 15.6-inch HP Envy Ultrabooks (starting at $749.99 and $799.99, respectively). They, too, slide under the 20mm limbo stick and offer 2.1 Beats Audio.

Each comes with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive plus 32GB mSATA SSD cache, as well as Intel ultrabook features including Rapid Start, Identity Protection, and Smart Connect Technologies; HP promises up to eight and nine hours of unplugged operation for the 14- and 15.6-inch models, respectively. Another new Envy model, the Envy Spectre XT, is a premium 13.3-inch ultrabook positioned above the HP Folio 13. A fraction lighter than the Folio at 3.1 pounds, the $999.99 system has similar hardware specs—4GB of memory, a 128GB solid-state drive, a backlit keyboard—with the exception of being available with an Intel third-generation "Ivy Bridge" processor. Its software bundle includes full versions of Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and Photoshop Elements 10 and a two-year subscription to Norton Internet Security. Featuring Beats Audio with quad speakers, the Spectre XT will ship June 8.

The rest of HP's new consumer laptops wear the Pavilion brand, led by the Pavilion m6—a 15.6-inch model in a slim chassis about a pound lighter than the 6-pound Pavilion dv6. Available with Intel or AMD processors and an optional backlit keyboard, the brushed aluminum m6 boasts 2.1 Beats Audio and will start at $699.99 when it reaches Best Buy and HP Direct in June.

The 15.6-inch Pavilion dv6 ($549.99) and 17.3-inch Pavilion dv7 ($799.99) have been redesigned with a metal finish in midnight black, a soft-touch panel at the base of the display cover for an easy-to-hold profile, quad speakers, and optional Nvidia GeForce graphics. HP's best-selling economy models, the Pavilion g6 and g7 (starting at $479.99 and $549.99, respectively), offer a new island-style keyboard with bowl-shaped keyboard deck, as well as Dolby enhanced audio with an exposed speaker bar for better sound projection. They'll be available July 25 in red, white, black, blue, and purple.

HP launches ultra-thin notebooks and ultrabooks like Apple’s MacBook Pro

HP launches ultra-thin notebooks and ultrabooks like Apple’s MacBook ProHP has launches Envy ultra-thin notebooks and Ultrabooks like Cupertino based Apple’s MacBook Pro

Leading computer maker Hewlett-Packard has announced a line of revamped laptops for the summer. The new HP computers include a few HP Envy models and a business friendly Ultrabook. HP is one of the prominent tech makers that develop advanced laptops and Ultrabooks with ultra-thin body and high performance processors. Of course, the just launched Intel’s third generation Ivy Bridge processors and the upcoming Windows 8 will be the major highlights of the new HP laptops and Ultrabooks. Here are some new HP portable computers.

HP Envy Ultrabook – 14-inch and 15.6-inch
HP is set to expand its Ultrabook line with two affordable models. The 14-inch HP Envy Ultrabook will start with $750 and the 15.6-inch Envy Ultrabook will start with $800 price mark. The machines may respectively be named HP Envy 4 and Envy 6. There have been reports about these products since April. As per the available details, the new Envy Ultrabooks will offer long battery life, i.e. up to 8 to 9 hours. The machines will show off great sound clarity thanks Dr Dre’s Beats Audio and better storage with the fast mSATA SSDs. Further details of the Envy Ultrabooks are not yet availed by HP. Possibly they may go for sales on May 9.

HP Envy Sleekbook
Not enough Envy laptops to choose from? You’ll also find a new thin laptop that HP has dubbed the Sleekbook. With a thickness of 0.8 inch and a weight of less than 4 pounds, this laptop could easily qualify as another Envy Ultrabook. But the Sleekbook does have a unique configuration of options and features, including optional discrete AMD graphics and a choice of black or red for the slip-resistant base. According to HP, the Sleekbook starts at $600 for the 15.6-inch model (available on June 20) and $700 for the 14-incher (available on May 9). The counterintuitive difference in prices reflects the fact that the laptop with the larger screen is configured with an AMD processor, while the one with the smaller screen has an Intel CPU.

HP EliteBook Folio 9470m: Business Ultrabook
HP is to launch yet another business Ultrabook. The new machine called the HP EliteBook Folio 9470m is a rich business-class notebook. It is larger than the company’s existing business Ultrabook, the Folio 13. The Folio 9470m is to come with a 14-inch display. However, it has only a thickness of 0.75-inch and weight of 3.5 pounds. The business friendly features of the Ultrabooks include VGA, Ethernet, Trusted Platform Module (TPM) data protection technology and an optional secondary six-cell slice battery. As per reports, HP will likely launch the HP EliteBook Folio 9470m in October this year. Price details of the Ultrabook are not available.

HP Envy Spectre XT
The Envy Spectre XT is a new addition to HP’s Spectre family. The new laptop is described as an ultra-stylish version of the series, which looks pretty sleek with its glass top. According to HP, the new XT notebook will come with an all-metal chassis, a thin bezel and a large display within its smaller 13.3-inch footprint. HP Envy Spectre XT features 0.57-inch thin body and it weighs at 3.07 pounds. The notebook will come with Intel Ivy Bridge, a backlit keypad, 128GB SSD and a powerful battery that can provide 7 hours life. The starting price for the Envy Spectre XT will be $1000 and it will be available in stores on June 3.

HP Envy Sleekbook
Envy Sleekbook is yet another brilliant member to the company’s sleek and powerful notebooks. The Envy Sleekbook, with a 0.8-inch body and 4-pound weight, is almost like HP’s Envy Ultrabook. But the machine will be different from the rest with a unique configuration of options and features. For example, it will get an optional discrete AMD GPU for increased graphical performance. The Sleekbook will have two models; the 15.6-inch and 14-inch. The first one will start at $600, whereas the latter one will have a starting price of $700. The expected release dates for the devices are respectively June 20 and May 9. The larger version of the Sleekbook is to sport an AMD processor, while the 14-inch version will have an Intel CPU.

Intel's Ivy Bridge laptops ready For PreOrder right now

Intel's Ivy Bridge laptops ready For PreOrder right nowThe third generation of Core i-series CPUs has been benchmarked, written about, and discussed for months now, but PC makers could only sell them starting April 29.

Even then, only the very high-end models, the quad-core Core i7 chips, are currently available. The more mainstream dual-core Core i3 and Core i5 processors found in most laptops won't get updated until sometime in May or June (and then probably won't be physically available for some time after that).

A handful of hearty manufacturers have already put the high-end new Core i7 chips up on their sites, allowing you to configure and order an Ivy Bridge laptop right now, although most of the estimated ship dates we've seen are several weeks out. The vendors we've found already offering third-gen Intel CPUs are:

Alienware: M14x, M17x, M18x -- available to order now; estimated shipping date May 28. (Dell says this morning that anyone who has recently ordered one of three models above and whose orders have not shipped yet will get an automatic Ivy Bridge upgrade.)

Origin: EON15-S, EON17-S, EON11-S -- available to order now; estimated shipping date, May 31.

Maingear: eX-L 15/17, Alt-15 -- available to order now; estimated shipping date May 14.

HP: Pavilion dv6t and dv7t, quad-edition series -- available to order now; estimated shipping date May 9.

Asus: ROG G75VW and G55VW -- Asus is promoting Ivy Bridge versions of these gaming laptops, and links
to Amazon and Best Buy indicate that they ship in three to five days (but the online retailers are a little unclear about exactly what chip is in these systems, so order with caution).

Samsung: 15-inch and 17-inch Series 7 Chronos -- updated on Samsung's Web site with third-gen processors, but so far, we've been unable to find them available to order online or in stores.

Of course, while our benchmark testing shows modest performance and battery life improvement with Ivy Bridge, the main advantage is better integrated graphics, something most people buying an Alienware or Origin laptop don't really need (as they'll have a dedicated Nvidia or AMD GPU).

But, if you absolutely must be the first on the block with the latest and greatest, check out the models listed above. If you run across other Ivy Bridge laptops available to configure and order, let us know in the comments section below and we'll update this list.

HP adds Intel’s Ivy Bridge to six desktops

The last two days have seen a positive rain of new systems using Intel’s third generation of Core processors, including an update to HP’s well-received Omni 27. They just announced another five models getting the Ivy Bridge update: the 21-inch Omni 220qd and Touchsmart 520xt all-in-ones, the Pavilion HPE h8t and h8xt desktops and the top-of-the-line HPE H9t Phoenix. The Phoenix will be hitting online and brick-and-mortar retailers on April 29th, but the rest of the models including the new Omni 27qd will have to wait until June 24th for retail. They’ll be offered on HP’s website the same day as the Phoenix.
HP adds Intel’s Ivy Bridge to six desktops
The bottom end of the Ivy Bridge lineup is the Pavilion HPE h8t, a mid-range desktop that starts at $699. The h8xt bumps up the specifications and upgrade options a bit and starts at $799. For the all-in-ones, the lowest-priced option is the Omni 220qd, which lacks a touchscreen but goes for $999.99. The TouchSmart 520xt is the same price, but features some lower-end components in exchange for a full touchscreen. The Omni 27qd and its gorgeous 27-inch display will start at $1199. And the high-powered HPE Phoenix h9t will start at $1149 and go up as you add expensive gaming components.

There’s a lot of options for Ivy Bridge out there, but HP is adding the impressive technology to existing units. Presumably all the desktops except for the Phoenix will also get Intel’s HD 4000 series integrated graphics, which will add an extra oomph. You’ll be able to customize the traditional desktops with AMD or NVIDIA graphics cards, of course. Perhaps the most exciting thing about this news is that the new processors won’t significantly affect the prices of these computers - they haven’t risen from their pre-Ivy Bridge list prices.

List of Intel Ivy Bridge Laptops to be Released In 2012

List of Intel Ivy Bridge Laptops to be Released In 2012The actual announce and release date for Intel’s new Ivy Bridge, the 3rd generation of Core processors, has been a moving target to say the least. After much shifting around on the calendar it appears Monday April 23rd is going to be the day Intel finally puts out a press release and allows manufacturers such as Dell, HP and Lenovo to start promoting their new Ivy Bridge equipped laptops. It was expected Intel would be making an announcement on April 9th, but that got pushed back due to supply issues. Toshiba decided they couldn’t wait any longer to tell the world what new laptops they had, so announced the L800, C800 and P800, S800 laptops this week. HP has updates to its Pavilion line ready and waiting in the wings, and had to push back their announce date to align with Intel – not that we don’t know everything about the updated 2012 Pavilion dv6 and dv7 already thanks to various leaks.

Intel Ivy Bridge

The new Intel Ivy Bridge processors will feature a smaller 22 nanometer fabrication process and offer more powerful performance but less power draw. That feat is achieved through use of new tri-gate transistors with faster switching capabilities than the current Sandy Bridge processors. There will also be more transistors per chip, and since more equals better performance that’s a good thing. Intel is claiming up to 20% improved processing performance and up to 50% improved graphics with the new HD 4000 integrated GPU. Even though performance improves the battery life will not suffer, in fact Intel is saying the reduced power consumption of the upcoming new Core processors will save up to 20% on power, which could result in 20% better battery life. Couple that with a more power efficient SSD and the next generation of laptops are sure to push the limits of battery life.

MacBook Air and Ultrabooks with Ivy Bridge will launch later

MacBook Air and UltrabooksIvy Bridge chips for laptops like the MacBook Air, the Dell XPS 13 ultrabook, and HP Envy series will come in a second wave, Intel's CEO said today during the company's first-quarter earnings conference call.

"The first versions of Ivy Bridge that we're shipping are quad-cores," CEO Paul Otellini said during the call today. "And then the second launch of the products is the dual core, which is the mainstream notebooks," he added.

The first launch will happen on Monday, the second launch is likely in June. That's the timeframe that a crush of Ivy Bridge laptop announcements are expected.

And some of them, sporting touch screens, will be targeted at Windows 8, Otellini said in response to an analyst's question. "The biggest change, and the one that we're really focused on, is trying to make sure that we intercept the Windows 8 launch with sufficient quantities of ultrabooks that have touch enabled," he said.

He also mentioned that 100 more ultrabook design are on the way. (That's a jump from the last number that Intel threw out there--75.)

And Otellini also threw cold water on the ultrabooks-need-to-be-cheap-to-be-successful argument. "I'm not a subscriber that it takes mainstream price points to get us to high volume. I think...that just helps. And what you're going to see is an incredible amount of differentiation from US$699 to US$1,299," he said.
